Calendar of Events

Throughout the year, Gardiner presents a full schedule of family-friendly, indoor and outdoor events for the enjoyment of both residents and visitors. Return to this page often to see what’s coming up!

2016

March:

26th – Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt & Window Painting. 10 am to 1 pm, Water St.  – Children of all ages can scour special merchant window displays for Easter Eggs.  Prizes awarded for completed scavenger lists.  Visits with the Easter Bunny and storefront window painting.

April:

16th – Gardiner Music Walk, 5pm to 8 pm, Water St.  – Business hosting local musicians. Like an ArtWalk, but for music!

May:

Thursday Evenings May through September – Classic Car Cruise In – From 5 to 7pm the Gardiner Waterfront Park will be filled with classic antique cars, a DJ will provide music and entertainment and food vendors will have a variety of offerings.

6th – Gardiner ArtWalk – Inside downtown Gardiner businesses.

June:

17th – Free Waterfront Concert: Muddy Ruckus, 7:30 to 9 pm, Followed By Firewroks, Gardiner Waterfront Park

18th – Greater Gardiner River Festival A kickoff to the Kennebec Valley’s “Whatever Family Festival”, highlights include an open-air craft fair on historic Water Street, a waterfront talent show, and Fireworks!

July

1st – Free Waterfront Concert: Lexi James, Gardiner Waterfront Park, 6:30 to 7:30pm, New country-pop singer

8th – Free Waterfront Concert: Pete Kilpatrick Band, Gardiner Waterfront Park, 6:30 to 7:30pm, Named Maine’s best act 4 times – Portland Best Music Awards

15th – Free Waterfront Concert: Jerks of Grass, Gardiner Waterfront Park, 6:30 to 7:30pm, High-energy bluegrass quartet

22nd – Free Waterfront Concert: Inanna, Gardiner Waterfront Park, 6:30 to 7:30pm, All-women’s percussion and vocal ensemble

29th – Free Waterfront Concert: Ale House String Band, Gardiner Waterfront Park, 6:30 to 7:30pm, Rustic-Folk Trio

August

5th – Gardiner Artwalk – Inside downtown Gardiner businesses

5th – Free Waterfront Concert, The Gawler Family, Gardiner Waterfront Park, 6:30 to 7:30pm, Fun-loving, folk-singing, fiddle-playing family of five

12th – Free Waterfront Concert, Bishop Avenue, Gardiner Waterfront Park, 6:30 to 7:30pm, Acoustic Rock and Roll and Americana!

19th – Free Waterfront Concert, Sassquatch, Gardiner Waterfront Park, 6:30 to 7:30pm, Fusion rock

26th – Free Waterfront Concert, Half Moon Jug Band, Gardiner Waterfront Park, 6:30 to 7:30pm, Folk music that rocks

September:

10th – Barks in the Park 10am to 2pm – Gardiner Waterfront Park,  – Four-legged friends and their owners celebrate with special demonstrations and events.

27th – Gardiner Adult Education 6:30-8:30 p.m – class held at the library at Gardiner Area High School  – Join a local beer geek or two from Craft Beer Cellar in Gardiner and learn
about the growing craft beer industry. Anyone interested may register online at www.msad11.maineadulted.org. For questions, please call Brenda Evans at 582-3774.

October:

8th – Swine & Stein Oktoberfest 11:30 am to 6:30 pm, Water Street,  – Gardiner’s take on a traditional Oktoberfest celebration – An all-day street party on Water Street featuring Maine craft beer, Maine musicians, and a celebration of delicious Maine pork products.

28th– Children’s Halloween 3:00 to 5:00 pm, along Water Street, Trick or Treating with Downtown merchants and a costume contest

November:

5th, Early Bird Sale in Downtown Gardiner, Gardiner businesses join Renys for spectacular savings for early morning shoppers

26th, Small Business Saturday, Shop local and avoid the big box stores as the holiday gift buying season kicks off. Various promotions and deals to be found inside Gardiner’s fine businesses.

December: 

Month-long celebration:  Gardiner Days of Light.

1st – Downtown Tree Lighting, This annual event kicks off the holiday season in Gardiner. Johnson Park, next to Johnson Hall, 5 to 6pm.

3rd – Parade Of Lights, early evening holiday parade along Water Street through downtown, 4:30pm.

Ongoing

FaceTime Social Networking Nights: Join Gardiner Main Street the first Wednesday of every month at a different location to celebrate our community, learn about events and happenings, and network with others. FaceTime is open to anyone who works, lives, or volunteers in the Greater Gardiner community. Host locations typically offer some sort of drink or food special, and Gardiner Main Street conducts raffles at each event.  This “after hours” event always takes place from 5-7pm, folks typically drop in for as long or as short as they would like.

Classic Car Cruise In – Thursdays May – September from 5 to 7pm at the Gardiner Waterfront Park, the waterfront will be filled with classic antique cars, a DJ will provide music and entertainment and food vendors will have a variety of offerings.

Gardiner Summer Farmers MarketWednesdays May -October from 3-6 at the Gardiner Common,  Put a face to your food and join your local farmers for the best local veggies, baked goods, meats and dairy products the season has to offer from 20 local vendors. Eat local, eat fresh, all year long.
