2018 Calendar of Events

JANUARY

>Saturday, January 20th: Public Baked Bean Supper from 5-6:30pm at First Baptist Church of Gardiner 47 Church St. Gardiner, ME. Adults $8 and children under 10 are Free. Come one, come all. Have a good meal and meet some new people.

FEBRUARY

>Wednesday, February 7th: Facetime Social Event, hosted by CoLab: coworking and meeting space, 149 Water Street, 5-7pm.

Our popular monthly social meetup is hosted by CoLab at 149 Water Street. Stop by and join us for a tour of the space, meet and chat with your community, and be entered into a free door prize drawing! Light food and beverages.

Facetime is open to anyone that lives, works, or plays in Greater Gardiner. Different businesses and organizations hosts this monthly event on the first Wednesday of each month. To keep up to date on this event, like and follow our Facebook and/or sign up for our biweekly newsletter.

MARCH

>Friday, March 9th: Gardiner Feud at Johnson Hall, 280 Water St. 7-8:30pm.

SURVEY SAYS…..

Join us for a fun Friday night as 6 teams battle it out to see who can come up with the most popular answers about the finer points of Gardiner. Admission is $5, concessions and cash bar will be provided by Johnson Hall.

 >Saturday, March 31:  Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt & Window Painting, Downtown Gardiner Water St. 10 am to 12 pm  – Children of all ages can scour special merchant window displays for Easter Eggs.  Prizes awarded for completed scavenger lists.  Visits with the Easter Bunny and storefront window painting.

APRIL

>Saturday, April 21st:  Gardiner Music Walk, Downtown Gardiner, Water St. – Organized by Niche, Inc downtown businesses will host local musicians. For more information, contact Niche, Inc. at (207) 588-7725.

>Monday, May 28th: Memorial Day Parade & Ceremonies, sponsored by Smith Wiley American Legion Post #4. The parade begins at 10am on Brunswick Avenue. For more information, click here.

>Thursday Evenings May through September – Classic Car Cruise In – 5 to 7pm the Gardiner Waterfront Park will be filled with classic antique cars, a DJ will provide music and entertainment and food vendors will have a variety of offerings.  

JUNE

>Saturday, June 22nd: Kickoff Concert for Johnson Hall’s Summer Waterfront Concert Series: this free event takes place throughout June-September  Gardiner’s Waterfront Park along the scenic Kennebec River, 6:30pm.

>Saturday, June 23rd: Greater Gardiner River Festival A kickoff to the Kennebec Valley’s “Whatever Family Festival”, highlights include an open-air craft fair on historic Water Street, a waterfront talent show, and Fireworks!

>Tuesday, June 26th: The Great Race: Gardiner, Maine will host a stop on the 2018 Hemmings Motor News Great Race presented by Hagerty. The Great Race, the world’s premiere classic car rally, will bring more than 100 antique automobiles to Historic Downtown Gardiner and the Waterfront Park. JULY

>Saturday, July 28th: Ice Cream Social & Song Fest
Faith Christian Church is hosting an ice cream social at the Gardiner Commons Park 4 to 7pm. Bring a lawn chair, blanket, Frisbee, or other game. The church will provide the ice cream and there will be a sing-along from featuring folk songs that everyone knows and several gospel hymns.

>Friday, August 3rd: Gardiner Artwalk – Inside downtown Gardiner businesses, Downtown Gardiner, Water St. 5:30-8:30pm

>Saturday, September 8th: Barks in the Park, Gardiner Waterfront Park. 10am-2pm – Four-legged friends and their owners celebrate with special demonstrations and events.

 OCTOBER

>Saturday, October 6th: Swine & Stein Oktoberfest, Downtown Gardiner, Water St.  11:30 am to 6:30 pm. – Gardiner’s take on a traditional Oktoberfest celebration – An all-day street party on Water Street featuring Maine craft beer, Maine musicians, and a celebration of delicious Maine pork products.

>Friday, October 26thChildren’s Halloween Downtown Trick or Treat, Downtown Gardiner, Water Street, 3:00 to 5:00 pm – Trick or Treating with Downtown merchants and a costume contest

> October : Truck ‘R Treat at the First Baptist Church of Gardiner, 5-8pm. Music, cotton candy, popcorn, hot coffee & cocoa. Open to kids of all ages. 

NOVEMBER

>Saturday, November 3rd: Early Bird Sale in Downtown Gardiner, Downtown Gardiner, Water St. 6-9am Gardiner businesses join Renys for spectacular savings for early morning shoppers

>Saturday, November 24th: Small Business Saturday, Downtown Gardiner & Greater Gardiner area. All Day. Shop local and avoid the big box stores as the holiday gift buying season kicks off. Various promotions and deals to be found inside Gardiner’s fine businesses.

 DECEMBER

Month-long celebration:  Gardiner Days of Light Celebration

FRIDAY, November 30th:
>Sidewalk Wreath Sales, Johnson Mini Park, 5 pm
>Cookie Walk by SpinOff Studio, 252 Water Street, 5:30-8pm
>Downtown Tree Lighting, Johnson Park, 5-6pm: this annual event kicks off the holiday season in Gardiner with a performance by Ampersand Academy of Dance, hot cocoa and sweet treats and a visit from Santa! Holiday Dance by Ampersand Academy of Dance 5:45pm, Santa lights the tree at 5:50pm followed by group caroling.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 1st:
>Various Craft Fairs: First Baptist Church 8am-1pm, Pittston Consolidated School 8am-1pm, Christ Church Episcopal 8am-2pm,  Laura E. Richards School 9am-2pm,  Gardiner/Augusta Lions Holiday Fair 8am-4pm.
>Gardiner Rotary Christmas Tree Sale, Hannaford Parking Lot, 8am-8pm

>Parade of Lights, Water Street Downtown Gardiner, starts at 4:30pm, Join us a festive, family-fun holiday parade along Water Street through downtown. Several events around Downtown Gardiner before and after the parade including a horse-carriage ride before the parade and visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus after the parade!

Wreaths Across America, get involved in Gardiner and be a part of the placing of remembrance wreaths at the Oak Grove and St. Joseph’s Cemeteries. A brief program, starting at 10:30 am will be held at the center of the cemetery with the placing of wreaths to commence shortly after.

Public Supper  5-6:30pm. The menu will be a Holiday theme with Ham and Turkey. Adults $8 and children under 10 are Free

Christmas Eve Shopping Extravaganza, many Downtown shops will be open on Sunday for your last minute gift needs!

On December 24 at First Baptist Church of Gardiner 47 Church St. Gardiner, ME, we celebrate Christmas Eve with two services. Our regular worship service will meet at the usual 10:00 hour on Sunday morning observing the fourth Sunday of Advent. Then at 6:00 our annual candlelight Christmas Eve service will feature the reading of the traditional scriptures telling us of the wondrous story of Jesus coming into this world. Each scripture reading will be beautifully expressed and illustrated by music to lift the soul. Plan to make it a day of celebration.

– ONGOING EVENTS –

  • FaceTime Social Networking Nights: Join Gardiner Main Street the first Wednesday of every month at a different location to celebrate our community, learn about events and happenings, and network with others. FaceTime is open to anyone who works, lives, or volunteers in the Greater Gardiner community. Host locations typically offer some sort of drink or food special, and Gardiner Main Street conducts raffles at each event.  This “after hours” event always takes place from 5-7pm, folks typically drop in for as long or as short as they would like. *Gardiner Main Street is on Facebook! We always post updates on our Facetime events, visit us on Facebook to see up to date information*
  • Open Mic Night: Tuesdays at Niche, Inc. 5-8pm, 289 Water St. Visit Niche on Facebook!
  • The Gardiner Farmers’ Market is pleased to announce our indoor market series at Johnson Hall this holiday season! Join us inside JH in the heart of downtown Gardiner on Saturdays 11/18, 11/25, and 12/23, from 10AM-1PM; and Wednesday 12/20 from 3-6PM. Vendors will be offering fresh winter greens and seasonal produce, eggs, meats, baked goods, coffee and tea, along with wood and fiber crafts from local artisans. Look for signage on Water Street and we’ll see you this Saturday!

  • Gardiner Summer Farmers Market: Wednesdays May -October from 3-6 at the Gardiner Common,  Put a face to your food and join your local farmers for the best local veggies, baked goods, meats and dairy products the season has to offer from 20 local vendors. Eat local, eat fresh, all year long.
